J-P Conte starts most days at about 5:30 a.m., he told IdeaMensch in a September 2026 interview. IdeaMensch profiles entrepreneurs and the habits behind their work.

Conte is the founder and managing partner of his family office, Lupine Crest Capital, and has worked in private equity for decades. His profile traces a path that began at Chase Manhattan Bank, ran through Harvard Business School and led into private equity.

The Morning

“I’m up early, usually around 5:30,” Conte told the site.

A workout comes before anything else. “I like to get a workout in before anything else because it clears my head and sets the tone,” he said.

Health as an Investment

He made a related case to other executives in an April 2025 column for Forbes Business Council.

“From a young age, we’re told to eat healthy, exercise and get regular check-ups,” he wrote.

“There is no single investment more important than life,” J-P Conte wrote. Eating well, exercising and regular check-ups were described as “investments in our health so that each of us can live a full (and long) life.”

The Evening

“Evenings are for family,” Conte told IdeaMensch.

“Taking care of yourself and your loved ones is more important than trying to find the next unicorn, and spending time with those closest to you is more meaningful than almost anything,” he wrote in the April column.

“Make the conscious choice to put health and family first,” he added.

Outside

IdeaMensch asked for his advice when work gets heavy.

“Get outside. Hiking, skiing, sailing,” Conte said.

He divides his time between Aspen, Colorado, home to Lupine Crest Capital, and Northern California. He told the site that he spends “a good amount of time” in Aspen, where the J-P Conte Family Foundation made a leadership gift in 2025 toward a new wildland fire engine for the local fire district.

“After decades in private equity, I started sailing my boat around the world and learning to surf and kite surf,” Jean-Pierre Conte wrote in a March 2026 Forbes Business Council column.

Commitments

Consistency was his answer when the site asked which habit keeps him productive. He serves on the board of trustees of Colgate University, his alma mater, and on the UCSF Foundation board. Keeping commitments to management teams, students and university partners is how trust is earned, he said.

Advice to his younger self was the subject of another question. JP Conte said he would start mentoring as early as possible.
